Data encryption has almost become a mandate in cyberspace. Hence, blockchain is gaining traction as a technology when it comes to building data confidentiality and maintaining integrity at an organizational level. Organisations like IBM and even NASA are leaning towards blockchain for their data protection policy, thereby establishing its credibility in the cyberspace.
Blockchain is nothing but a database that has unique features. It exists in multiple systems simultaneously and also grows when records or “blocks” are added to it. Every block maintains a link with the previous block hence termed as Blockchain.
Why Blockchain a revered name?
Blockchain technology is well known for its security, transparency, and decentralization. It is not owned by anyone and highly preferred because:
What makes blockchain technology indispensable?
Real-time application
Blockchain has numerous real-time applications across different sectors like military, banking, health care, etc:
DARPA, Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency, a technology development branch of the US army, started using blockchain technology for its encryption strategy with great success.
Use-cases of Blockchain in Cybersecurity
Protected edge computing
Edge computing is something that enables mobile computing and IoT technologies. This bridges the gap between the computation and the data storage which means the operation is performed by a local device instead of transmitting it to the data center.
Hence, blockchain provides a platform for IoT by all means like authentification, enhanced data attribution, etc.
Advanced confidentiality
In its initial stages, blockchain was not developed with access controls. Eventually, while offering companies with security solutions, it became necessary to create authentication and access control so that data is protected. It also works well in not leaving a gap for the data to go into the hands of the wrong person.
Reduced DDoS attacks
Distributed Denial of Service attack is an attack by multiple computer systems on a target. Thereby, disabling the target from providing the services to the users as it may slow down or even crash the computer at times. This is solved by integrating blockchain into decentralized solutions to minimize such attacks.
Therefore, on the whole, blockchain technology is acting as a change-maker by fixing the security issues worldwide.
